In a small rural community once burdened by hardship and high youth unemployment, a quiet transformation is underway. Thanks to Aglow Farms and the HAPPY Project, hope is taking root—and lives are flourishing.

For Mavis Donkor, a mother of seven, life used to be a daily struggle. Feeding her children, affording healthcare, and simply surviving were challenges she faced alone. 

“There were days I would cry, not knowing where the next meal would come from,” she recalls. “When my child fell sick, I couldn’t even afford to take them to the hospital.”

Elizabeth Asantewaa is a young, passionate agriculturist from Ghana whose journey in agriculture has been shaped by hands-on training, perseverance, and the empowering support of the HAPPY Program. 

A graduate of Ohawu Agric College in the Volta Region, where she studied poultry, catfish, rabbit, and vegetable production. This was more than education—it was the beginning of a dream.
After her studies, she was posted to Papao for her national service.

Faustina Twenewaa, a resilient young woman from Dormaa Ahenkro, is living proof that with the right opportunity, lives can be transformed. Once a pharmacy shop attendant struggling to make ends meet, Faustina now supervises a 15,000-bird broiler operation at GINAAACO Farms—all thanks to the Harnessing Agricultural Productivity and Prosperity for Youth (HAPPY) Program.

About 50 young women have received intensive training in broiler production under the Harnessing Agriculture Productivity and Prosperity for Youth (HAPPY) Program, a collaborative initiative between the Mastercard Foundation and Agri-Impact Limited.  

The trainees, mobilized by the National Service Authority (NSA), gathered at the NSA Farm in Papao, Haatso, for an intensive session on Tuesday, March 25, 2025. 

This latest cohort brings the total number of women trained in broiler production at the facility in the past two weeks to 80.

Priscilla Arthur, a young woman with a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Procurement and Supply Chain, has secured a position as a stock officer through the Mastercard Foundation’s Harnessing Agricultural Productivity and Prosperity for Youth (HAPPY) Program, in partnership with Agri-Impact Limited.

The CEO of Yedent Agro Group of Companies and NAPLE Betta Farms, Samuel Ntim, has praised the Harnessing Agricultural Productivity and Prosperity for Youth (HAPPY) Program for its vital role in revitalizing Ghana's poultry sector, especially broiler production.
 
According to Ntim, the HAPPY Program—a Mastercard Foundation initiative in partnership with leading agribusiness firm Agri-Impact Limited—has, for the first time, enabled consistent broiler production for the Ghanaian market. Previously, the country relied heavily on imports to meet its growing demand for poultry.

The Mastercard Foundation in partnership with Agri-Impact Limited has rolled out an ambitious and transformative program dubbed Harnessing Agricultural Productivity and Prosperity for Youth (HAPPY) to be implemented by eight Implementing Partners including NewAge Agric Solutions, National Service Scheme (NSS), Ghana Cares (MiDA), Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA), Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA), TechnoServe, Catholic Relief Services (CRS) and Jobberman.
