Training, Tech, and 1,000 Birds: Cynthia Ohenewaa Botchway’s Journey with the HAPPY Program

Cynthia Ohenewaa Botchway is one of the many young Ghanaians whose future is being transformed through the HAPPY Program—an initiative of Mastercard Foundation in partnership with Agri-Impact Limited.

Working under the HAPPY Broiler Project with Ransboat Poultry Farms, Cynthia is building practical skills, gaining leadership experience, and paving the way for her own agribusiness dream.

“I’ve learned so much through this project. I currently serve as a young supervisor and oversee the work of other participants through the broiler project,” she shares proudly.

Before joining the program, Cynthia had never used a tablet or a laptop.

Today, not only does she own these tools, but she also confidently leads the onboarding process for new participants and manages digital records at Ransboat Farms.

Her first visit to Kumasi—through her participation in the EHAPPY Program at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST)—was a turning point.

There, she received specialized training in record-keeping and digital literacy, both critical skills for modern agribusiness.

Cynthia now manages a flock of 1,000 broiler birds, a responsibility that comes with both income and increased confidence.

She is determined to start her own poultry farm within the next two years, empowered by the technical training, digital skills, and business exposure she has gained.

“Thanks to the HAPPY Program, I’ve found purpose and a path. I’m not just learning—I’m leading,” she says with determination.

Cynthia’s story reflects the HAPPY Program’s mission to create dignified and fulfilling work for young people—especially young women—by enabling them to thrive in agriculture and agribusiness.
